William Gibson

October 16, 1938 ~ January 28, 2020 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

In the early hours of Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020, William Edward “Ed” Gibson was with family when he was peacefully called home to be with the Lord. He was 81.

Born in Los Angeles in 1938, Ed quickly developed a love for sailing and fishing in Newport where he grew up. After earning the rank of Eagle Scout and graduating high school, he spent time in college in Indiana before finishing up his bachelor’s at Cal Poly Pomona. From there he spent time as a sports reporter, managing a drug store, owning a sporting goods store, and finally settling into his own tax accounting practice, which he continued to do through his 80th birthday.

Ed met and married his wife Wendy in 1978 and while on an annual family vacation, fell in love with Montana and moved along with his family to Bigfork in 1995.

Ed ensured his love of the outdoors was instilled into his family, organizing countless road trip adventures over the years. His gleeful smile was outdone only by his remarkable voice, which he shared continually from his time in a barbershop trio to his frequent soloing events and choir on Sundays. His love for sports was unmatched, but the love of his family was paramount, made evident by the admiration of his grandchildren.

Ed can finally reunite with his granddaughter Madison Duke, who, along with his brothers Dave and Larry, were called to the Lord before him.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Wendy, his brother Don, his daughter Stephanie, his sons Mike and Scott, and his grandchildren Jamie and Wyatt, who consider him the “Best Boppa Ever” and their number one fan.

Services will be held at the Lutheran Church at Creston, 5447 Montana 35, Kalispell, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, the 8th of February.
