Virginia Ellen Nielsen

Ellen Virginia Nielsen was born January 1, 1917 and passed away on December 31, 2018. At the time of her death she was staying at the Mountain View Manor in Eureka, Montana. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Mattie and Senor Mortensen, her husband Jack Nielsen and son Jim Nielsen, 4 grandchildren, 6 great and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Virginia was born in Ephraim, Utah but her family moved to the Uintah Basin when she was several months old. She grew up in the Uintah Basin attending some one room schools and the first consolidated high school in Roosevelt. Virginia continued her education at Snow College then transferring to Utah State University where she graduated with a degree in education. While at Snow College she met the love of her life Jack Nielsen who she married December 29, 1938.
Virginia’s early married life found her and Jack living in numerous cities following Jack’s job with the Bureau of Reclamation. In 1940 a baby girl (Carol Ann) was born, and in 1944 her son (Jim) was born. After WW2 Jack and Virginia returned to the Uintah Basin where she lived until she relocated to Montana in 2014.
Virginia spent the bulk of her professional career as a junior high English, History, and home making Teacher where she was recognized with several awards.
Virginia’s life in the Uintah Basin allowed her time to develop her hobbies in quilting, ceramics, hunting, fishing and gardening. Her yard and flower gardens provided the community with considerable enjoyment for many years. She also gave freely of her skills and time to teach community groups who shared her passion for her hobbies.
Virginia lived a good life and will be missed by her friends and family. She made the world a better place because she was here.
A memorial Service will be held at a later date in Roosevelt, Utah.
