Janice Endslow Peterson

October 30, 1935 ~ May 10, 2019 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Tribute

“Knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Janice Endslow Peterson, of Lakeside, Montana, born on October 30th, 1935 in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Vincent and Dorothy Stubbs, passed away at age 83 on May 10, 2019 in Kalispell, Montana, surrounded by family.
Janice was preceded in death by Eugene Peterson, her husband of 60 years, who passed away in October. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Peterson, her sons Eric and Leif Peterson, her brother Vincent (Buddy) Stubbs, as well as nine grandchildren.
Jan is the author of the book, Becoming Gertrude, How Our Friendships Shape Our Faith.
Throughout her life, Jan was known for her generous hospitality, opening her home to congregants and visitors, sometimes as many as 300 days and nights a year, providing safe haven, and giving of herself as few others could.
During the last weeks of her life Jan received a steady parade of visitors—some who traveled considerable distances—who came to express their love and appreciation for a life well-lived and well-shared.
According to the family, “During her final hours there were a few occasions when she was found to be weeping. While it’s impossible to know for sure, we’re inclined to believe she was seeing something so beautiful it bought her to tears. She may have even seen Eugene. It was a beautiful, holy, peace-filled death. With grateful hearts, we give thanks for the gift of her good, long life, knowing that her joy is now complete.”
Friends and family can pay their respects at the memorial service to be held on May 25th at 2pm at the Flathead Lutheran Camp in Lakeside, MT with a reception to follow.
The family suggests that donations in Jan’s memory can be made to the following three organizations that she and Eugene cared deeply for and supported:
