Garmen Meadows, 88
Garmen Harold Meadows was born on July 17, 1930 in Aurora, Missouri. He was the youngest of nine children born to Washington Irving and Ida Pauline Meadows. He passed from this life to the next October 20, 2018.
Garmen grew up in the hill country of Missouri on Bull Creek. His working career started early, as he began hauling Studebakers out of South Bend, IN at the age of 17. But his love for the mountains, big game hunting and the wide open spaces of the West, brought him and his wife, Louise to Montana where they raised five children together. They settled in Kalispell in 1963. Garmen worked for Carpenter Paper Co. and State Farm Insurance, then in 1970 he received his real estate broker’s license and worked for Valley Realty, then went on to open his own office, Meadows Real Estate.
Garmen always had a great love for horses—some he brought with him in his move to Montana, later he raised and showed Arabian horses, but mostly he loved riding them in the woods, taking them in the Bob Marshall to hunt elk or just seeing them graze peacefully in the pasture at his farm west of town.
After retiring from real estate, Garmen drove over-the-road semi-trucks for several years, then later bought his own dump truck to do local hauling. He spent his later years in a small cabin on the Whitefish River where he enjoyed gardening, watching the deer and Canada Geese come and go and visiting with neighbors and relatives. Garmen professed faith in Jesus Christ as his savior, was baptized as a young boy, and enjoyed the teachings of Dr. David Jeremiah.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings. He is survived by his ex-wife, Louise (Whiteside) of Siloam Springs, AR; his son Nathan and wife Raelene of Siloam Springs, AR; daughter Merrie (Ford) and husband Tim of Kansas City, MO; daughter Kathy (Van Someren) and husband Mike of Kalispell; son David and wife Madelyn of Kalispell; son Daniel of Kansas City, MO and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is loved and will be missed by all.
